237 Cataract Surgeries for IWISHUSUN | Nike Donation

Nike supports IWISIHSUN! The sportswear brand used the occasion of this year’s Solemart – Germany’s biggest sneaker event where private buyers and sneaker fans are invited to buy selected pairs from numerous brands – to do good once again.

True to IWISHUSUN’s motto “It’s good for you and good for others”, Nike donated the entire profits of the sales to the charity label. The entire sum has been handed over to our partner ORBIS International: with this money the non-profit organisation will be able to finance 237 cataract operations in the Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute in Bangladesh which will be supported directly.

39 million people worldwide suffer from blindness. Thanks to support from Nike and all the buyers, there will be 237 less now!

Exhibition: Marco Pho Grassi [PLÙ-RI-MO]

Introduced to you through our interview, from Saturday on our friend and Milan-based artist Marco “Pho” Grassi will show his latest works at Circle Culture Gallery Hamburg (read his interview with IWISHUSUN here). The solo show which is titled [Plù-ri-mo] will overview his most recent artistic research by displaying a selection of multiple materials (“Walls”), ceramics, works on paper (“Monotypes”), as well as his new “Rayographies” – even though he variegates materials, concepts and techniques, at the second glance all seem to be connected with each other and keep a coherent aesthetic. No matter what media Grassi has chosen, the used material enters into a direct dialogue with its medium provided.

The “Walls” series which Grassi started in 2012 is composed of found objects and detritus from urban public spaces that he utilises as a subsurface for his strong and expressive abstract paintings. The artist also presents a new series of ceramics which were crafted in collaboration with the famous crocker Marco Tortarolo in 2013. As with ceramics, the “Monotypes” paper works – also part of the exhibition - emphasize the intrinsic need of the artist to commence a dialogue with different materials. Furthermore, Grassi introduces two selected “Rayographies” of his most recent project called “Le Grand Verre” that were produced in collaboration with the artist Matteo Bologna.

Behind The Scenes: Robot Koch at work

A few weeks ago we presented our first creative partner project and our first short film, the result of a cooperation between Berlin-based composer and music producer Robot Koch and the photographer Sabrina Theissen. For “In a Creative Dialogue – Robot Koch x Sabrina Theissen for IWISHUSUN” our ambassadors got together to take a look at the topic of sight, which IWISHUSUN has dedicated its work to.

Berlin-based photographer and director Jonas Lindström who shot our Sabrina Dehoff x IWISHUSUN collaboration necklace just premiered the first two chapters of his new series “The Lost, The Determined, The Dreamer.” Directed exclusively for NOWNESS, our talented friend tells the story of three men in three chapters: “The films were loosely inspired by ‘Mystery Train’ by Jim Jarmusch. I thought of it as a triptych: three men, three tales. The hotel is a place that somehow exists out of space and time, a micro-cosmos to these stories and many more. Part One is ”The Lost”, starring the Brit School alumni Nathan Stewart-Jarrett who gets lost in a baroque London hotel:

The second chapter of “The Lost, The Determined, The Dreamer” stars Scottish designer Cathal MacAteer who is “The Determined”. The founder of functional, detail-driven British label Folk remembers of the shoot: “I spent a long time in the shower; in the end, it flooded the downstairs of the hotel.”

Chapter Three of NOWNESS’ “Neo-Noir Menswear Trilogy,” with Thomas Shickle premieres next Tuesday, January 28.

Toowee Kao is a gallerist and private art dealer who represents two of our ambassadors at her Los Angeles-based Soze Gallery: Jaybo Monk and Augustine Kofie. But also for all the other young contemporary artists who are entrusted in her care Toowee Kao is an essential supporter since she is not only a natural talent when it comes to art business but also aims to make being an artist a little less hard in every way and offers an artist residency in downtown Los Angeles for Sozes Gallery’s international artists.
