Alexis Taylor’s melancholic and unique voice overlays an explosive, arboreous montage, a dramatic series of moving images which visualise About Group‘s new single “All Is Not Lost.” Formed in 2009 as an improvisational outlet for Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor, guitarist and Spring Heel Jack and Spiritualized member John Coxon, keyboardist Pat Thomas and drummer Charles Hayward of This Heat, About Group are Indie experimenters with a feel for their environment.
The aesthetic of this paean to nature is simple but haunting: The images were selected by the Swedish director and artist Henrik Håkansson from his own project, “Aug. 11, 2012 Symptoms Of The Universe Studies (6min 29 Sec)”. As in his installation the slow-motion film which was shot by Håkansson at high frame rates of 4000-7000 per second focuses on different trees bursting asunder so that the trees become a symbol of life intertwined an act of destruction, resulting in a startlingly beautiful meditation on what we understand as nature.
